Painful $2 Billion Drop In Advertising For Newspapers

Alan Mutter at Newsosaur noticed that the National Newspaper Association released it’s third quarter advertising numbers the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, presumably hoping that nobody would notice. They shoud be so lucky. Total ad sales for the 3Q 2008 were $8.94 billion, an 18.11% drop from a year ago, when 3Q 2007 sales were $10.92 billion. That’s a $1.98 billion decline.
